Here at Sovereign we've been teaching Western to people for many years. We're a licensed riding school, one of the first in the country in fact. We want you to have fun whilst you are learning and learn in a friendly, relaxed and informative way. Don't just believe us, read what people say...
"I came along for my first lesson in Western riding on Saturday
and it was a truly awesome experience.
I used to ride a lot some years ago, but over time became
disenchanted with English riding and almost gave it up entirely. My parents
mentioned Sovereign Quarter Horses as they’d been impressed by one of your
demos. A quick look at your wonderful website and I wanted to know more, so I
booked a lesson – my first in 20 years!
The laid-back, friendly attitude I found at SQH was most
refreshing – everyone was smiling and welcoming. David was a relaxed,
encouraging teacher who gave calm instruction and had me feeling at ease from
the start. The horse I rode was an absolute dream! Sensitive, but sensible and
very forgiving of my total lack of Western riding experience. I can honestly see
why SQH attracts such glowing testimonials.
Well done, Sovereign Quarter Horses – I suspected I was
through with riding, but can honestly say you’ve reignited my passion and I
can’t wait to return and learn more." Heidi

"Many thanks for the amazing 2 hours spent with you both on Sunday. Your
horses are so well trained and we are all impressed with their nature and ease
to ride. Even though some of us did not do them justice! My brother and
daughter are smitten and will be returning to continue lessons. I think my friend and I will also have another go and I promise to do better next
time! Thank you so much again for a wonderful day. You and Sarah have such a
comfortable and sympathetic way of teaching that made us feel very much at ease."

2011 has been a great year for Sovereign Quarter Horses.
Amanda Griffiths' mare Snippers Mito Bella wins the AQHA UK Supreme Halter Championship for the second time! David shows the Supreme Halter Champion for the fourth time in a row - all with different horses! Our thanks to NRH Photography for this great photo and special congratulations to Sarah Tibbles (or Little Sarah as we call her, who prepared Bella for this class)
Over 2011 Sovereign bred or trained horses have featured heavily in many of the top show results. David and Sarah have been breeding and show American Quarter Horses for over 30 years now, and their long standing breeding programme and show ring expertise really showed at the 2011 AQHA UK Breed Show. The large Halter Classes were dominated by Sovereign bred horses with Snippers Mito Bella, Snippnbelles Star, Snips Silver Dollar (at her first show) and Poppett Smoked A Jay all going Grand Champion. Additionally, Snippers Mito Bella's daughter Jays Whiskey Girl and Jays Dene (by Jays Smokin Story out of a SQH mare and owned by Jackie and David Teideman) went Reserve Grand Champions.
In the performance classes, David was second reserve AQHA UK Champion in Open Western Pleasure on Jays Centrefold owned by Tracy Haynes. Sarah won the RISK Ltd AQHA UK Trail Maturity (following on from winning the Futurity last year) on Dorothy Coleman's Snippnbelles Star who has had consistent results in trail throughout 2011 and is now very close to winning her performance Register of Merit and her grand championship at this show should have confirmed her Amateur Halter Register of Merit.
David has also had some great results this year with home bred youngsters in the reining arena. Snippers Son N Heir scored a 70 in his first NRHA class earlier this year and David riding Linda Joynes' Classie Jay has never been out of the top three in all his classes this year and won the AQHA UK Risk Ltd Reining Futurity/Maturity.
David also made a return to Trail classes this year with Chief n Command earning points in Green trail with second places in extremely large classes.
Just goes to show, 30 years experience really does makes Sovereign the Home of Champions!

16th October, the first SQH Autumn Open Day and Foal Showcase proved to be an immense success, with demonstrations throughout the day featuring home bred AQHA UK Futurity Champions, and the stallions, over 200 people basked in the fantastic weather and admired over 30 years of quarter horse breeding experience.
Jays Smokin Story with Amy Deptford proved to be a popular participant with a special cheer for his demonstration, and the evergreen legendary Snippers Heirogance at 23 years old came out with Sarah riding him and impressed everyone with his great conformation, disposition and the fact at 23 years old he looks at least a decade younger. Snipper loves these days, meeting - what he no doubt thinks of as his "fans" and has always been a great ambassador for the Quarter Horse in the UK and is still going strong! Blazin Chic Olena and David earned perhaps the biggest cheer of the day with their reining and bridleless cutting display, the consensus of opinion on Blaze was that he was "a super cool horse".
The film crew on site were completely new to western and couldn't believe how calm and sensible the horses were, and were thrilled to be able to witness the day.
The 2011 Foal Crop by Snipper and Blaze were the stars of the show though, with Amy Deptford and Tom Middleton leading the mares with foals at foot around the arena, they were really well behaved as we expected them to be, amazing considering the amount of people crowded around the arena. The best bit, that kept the crowds there until late? Turning all the mares and foals out into the arena so they could show at liberty, with David walking amongst 26 mares and foals talking about them, it was a spectacle that has probably never been shown in the UK before. It was an incredible day. Our thanks to everyone who came and especially to the Sovereign Team for their hard work.
Our Spring Open Day is booked for Sunday 8th April and we hope you'll be able to make it.
