There are three shows this summer,
with competitors competing to win a weeks holiday at the wonderful TX Ranch on
the Montana/Wyoming border in the USA. Interestingly, Jamie Oliver has been
filming at the TX Ranch www.txranch.com, and one of last year’s winners,
Beverley Crane was actually at the Ranch during the filming!
As well as offering western classes
to all breeds of horses, the SQH/TX Challenge shows are informal, encouraging
and offer the popular walk jog classes
in Pleasure, Horsemanship and Trail as well as other western classes.
The aim of the shows is to get
people, whatever their level out there showing and more importantly having fun
riding western. All classes are split
into go-arounds if there are more than 10 entries, and for those more
experienced competitors, the shows have classes for them too.
Show 1 saw 47 competitors with 166
horses competing under Judge Lucy Adams along with her Ring Steward Sue Evans
in the 15 classes. The largest classes
proved to be the Walk Jog Pleasure and Horsemanship with 25 entrants in both. The
popular Westernscene Trail Challenge was won by Stephanie Goodacre and
Butternut Cedar, and Jane Roberts riding Miss Poppy Freckles SD (Breeze) won
the Western Scene Green Reiner series belt buckle her 3rd place in
the fourth run at the show clinching the award.
Mention should be given to the three
youth riders competing, all youth compete in the same classes as the adults,
with very good results. Hetty West, at her first western show rode Snippers
Della Reed to win the Youth High Point Award, with Claire Evans on William as
Reserve Champion and Brittany Winfrow with Eloquent Emma as the second reserve
champion. All three youth riders took home
hi-point prizes of a grooming kit.
In the Adult division, Cheryl Hewson
and Absolutely Addicting and Sue Boyden with Award Me A Hobby were level
pegging all the way through the show with Cheryl a few points ahead before the
last class of the day. Sue’s 5th
place in the Westernscene Green Reiner class, meant they were both on 50 points
and tieing for the highpoint. Some quick
calculations and checks showed that Sue had competing in more classes, so the
High Point was awarded to Sue Boyden and Award Me A Hobby.
Sue and Cheryl now both lead the
SQH/TX Challenge High Point, however, there are still two shows to go.....
Next Show is 23rd August,
with judge Alan Payne. The schedules
will be available from the Sovereign Quarter Horses website soon. www.sovereignquarterhorses.com
