Patrick Hopgood grew up on a 2000 acre cattle property in Australia where
horses are not just a hobby, but a way of life. They are used in everyday tasks
from rounding up cattle to checking fences where cars can not go. He started
riding before he could walk and has not looked back. After 20 years of
competing in a variety of horse sports he decided to try his hand at reining
and headed to America
to learn from some of the best trainers in the world. He was lucky enough to
spend a few years in America
working for, Ron Ralls, Philip Ralls, Monty Roberts and Glen Aspinal. He also had
the pleasure to ride with Bob Avila, Corey Cushing and Robbie Schroeder. Due to
America’s financial crises the visa’s were tough to get so Patrick moved to
England with his British fiancé Nikki and is enjoying working here with us at
Sovereign Quarter Horses sharing his experience and knowledge.
